Music is definitely one of my passions, and so is the environment. That's why I was interested to hear about the 1% for the Planet Music Fundraising Campaign.

It's billed as "Quite possibly the most important album ever made." That's a pretty bold statement considering what "We Are The World" did for Africa in the 80s.

The quick summary of 1% for the Planet is it's a growing global movement of over 1,100 member companies, small and large, that donate 1% of their sales to environmental organizations worldwide.

Here is more info on 1% for the Planet and what it's all about:

THE ALBUM

  • Tagline: Help rockstars save the planet.
  • 1% for the Planet: The Music, Vol. 1 is a one-of-a-kind music compilation. Over forty artists have donated rare or exclusive music to produce the first album dedicated to supporting the environment.
  • Over 40 leading artists came together to create 1% for the Planet: The Music, Vol. 1. An environmental first for the music industry, all proceeds from the album help 1% for the Planet do more for their growing network of environmental non-profits around the world

CONSUMER & FAN SALES

  • When people buy the music or spread the word, they’re supporting 1% for the Planet and over 1,800 environmental non-profits working around the world on everything from protecting coastal beaches, to saving our rainforests and more.
  • Buyers get 41 rare or exclusive tracks for $9.99, from the album’s website at http://music.onepercentfortheplanet.org or at iTunes or Amazon.

  2. It is nice that an important group of people like music stars are doing something for the environment, i watch the band aid with a lot of friends it was an impressive event. Lets hope they do something for haiti too.

  3. While reading your post I've thought that music should also be eco-friendly - some styles of music remind noise and really pollute our environment.

  4. Most important album ever? Yeah right. This is the first time I ever heard of it. I mean, it's a great cause, but they need more publicity.

I must admit, this was my first thought - if it's going to be so big why haven't we heard of it? I too commend the idea, but having checked out the playlist it's not very impressive IMO.

  6. This ecofriendly style is really cool ,but they should have given more publicity to it , Very impressive :)
