I don't think there's a better present (for Valentine's Day or any day) than a loving animal who needs a loving home. Gracie, the cutie up above, was my birthday present in 2002. Mystic, the cutie down below, was an every day sort of present - we found her and fell in love. Search Petfinder to find the newest member of your family or to locate a shelter in your area.

Hello Stefanie,
Great post on pet adoption.
We are in the Sacramento area of California. Due to all the home foreclosures in our area, it has left animal shelters full of pets abandoned by their owners. Luckily some of the local television stations in our area do a short 5 minute ad, and feature the animals with pictures and names available for adoption.
Many do not realize that pets are a victim of our poor economy as well.

Such cute cats!
During February a lot of animal shelters fill up with people who bought puppies and kittens as Christmas gifts and then find out that puppies and kittens need training to be well-behaved pets.

is it so hard to train a kit? or a dog?
The only thing animal needs is - Love
In return they create perfect lovely atmosphere at home.
That is worth to have animals.

Thanks for the post Stefanie. I adopted my cat from the humane society over 10 years ago and have loved every day since. Animals bring true happiness in life!

Adoption is a wonderful way to get a pet, especially a cat. There are so many cats that are in shelters and don't get homes. I just don't get why people don't choose to adopt more because there are just so many animals in shelters that need homes.

My kitties appreciate the compliments!
Marlborogirl, it's really not that difficult, but some people just don't care to take the time to do the right thing. We had a bit of a difficult time with Gracie, she's a stubborn little trouble-maker, and Mystic was the definition of scaredy-cat, but we would never have given up on either of them!
