Candles

When I found Caterpillars soy candles, I thought, "Hmm, I like soy candles, let's take a look at what they have." When I saw their scents, I was very intrigued... never before have I seen amaretto coffee scented soy, mulled apple cider scented soy, etc... Looking through the list of scents sent me drooling...

Soy wax is healthier for us and for the environment than paraffin wax candles. As you all know, paraffin candles are made from the sludge at the bottom of a barrel of oil, which goes through chemical processes to create the candle. When burned, they release toxins, which makes them a large cause of indoor air pollution. Soy candles don't release these toxins, contain no toxic chemicals, burn cleaner and last longer than their paraffin alternatives.

Caterpillars Soy Candles are 100% FDA certified organic soybean wax, which is a big reason why I'm so interested in them. There are a lot of other soy candles out there, but are they 100% organic? I don't know, but I doubt most are. With Caterpillars, you have the option of getting your candles dye-free. I suggest choosing dye-free soy votives to keep your candles natural. Once you add colors, you add chemicals, which sort of defeats the purpose, if you ask me! If you want color, get colored candle holders (see a photo from my wedding above, colored holders are much better than colored candles!).

Anyone who knows me knows that I go through business ideas like undies, so Caterpillars wholesale soy candles section sounds interesting, as well... A soy candle home business? Might not be a good idea for me... I might end up keeping all the candles ;)

  1. Once I learned all the toxins that come with paraffin candles, I vowed never to burn another one. I had one PR rep try to convince me that some high-end paraffin candles were green because they came in a "reusable box." What a joke!

  2. You know -- I could have sworn that though the majority of articles on soy candles tend to laud their praises, I have seen something before about the negative side to them. I can't remember where it was, and it seems to me that the soy candles as you describe them, dye-free and organic, would be just about ideal for functionality and environmental reasons. Have you heard anything bad about them or is this just a kink in my memory?

  3. Jennae, that's greenwashing if I've ever seen it! You gotta love what they try to label green...

Going Green, I've never heard anything bad about soy candles, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

  6. Great read, I love to see info out here that tells about the many clean, eco friendly qualities of soy candles.
We have to also get the word out on the harmful nature of gel candles, I will agree they are great to look at, but the additives to make the gel a gel are harmful to handle when making, harmful when smelled and definately dangerous when burnt.

  8. Scented Soy, gel candles may be nice to look at, but so are soy candles! I've seen some soy candles that are more beautiful than any gel candles I've seen.

  9. I agree, scented soy candles are really amazing. Unlike paraffins... There are simply so many types of scents you can choose from. My favourite scents would be the Autumn Apple...
