The Container Recycling Institute reports that Americans will buy an estimated 34.6 billion single-serve (1 liter or less) plastic water bottles in 2009. More than 75 percent of those bottles will end up in landfills or incinerators, rather than being recycled. That’s 877 bottles wasted every second, according to the Institute. ??The production of plastic water bottles also depletes America’s natural resources. The Institute reports that it takes more than 15 million barrels of oil annually to produce the water bottles consumed in the U.S. in one year. That’s enough oil to fuel 100,000 U.S. cars for a year.

cuisinart02.jpgAllow me to introduce you to the Cuisinart CleanWater® WGH-1500.

The looks of the CleanWater® system are ascetically pleasing with the usage of stainless steel. The filtration system used has been tested and certified by the Water Quality Association and has been certified by the state of California Department of Public Health for the reduction of Organic compounds: Benzine; Tetrachloroethylene Toluene and, Inorganic/Radiological Contaminants: Cadmium; Copper; Mercury; Lead. According to Cuisinart the reduction amounts are as follows:

GF-80 filter reduces contaminants including (for pH level 6.5):
– Lead 98.7%
– Chlorine (taste and odor) 97.5%
– Mercury 92.8%
– Benzene 84.1%
– Cadmium 96.6%
– Copper 85.0%
– Tetrachloroethylene 92.5%
– Toluene 89.8%

The Cuisinart CleanWater® WGH-1500 offers water with three options - hot, room temperature, and cold. If you’re like me and enjoy a cup of tea, the hot water output is more than ample to give you one. The cold water side will chill the water to 45 degrees fahrenheit for that nice cold glass of water in the morning or after a hard day’s work.

For better economy, the CleanWater® WGH-1500 has a switch to turn off the heating element and for best economy the unit can be completely turned off - but it will take up to 90 minutes to chill the water once powered on again, and about 15 minutes to heat the water on the hot side.

The new Cuisinart CleanWater® Countertop Filtration System is available in a 2-gallon capacity unit that comes with two fast flow spigots for dispensing hot, cold or room-temperature filtered water, as well as an Energy Saver mode that cuts energy use by 50 percent when the function is engaged. The filtration system has a GF-80 filter that significantly reduces contaminants such as lead, mercury and copper, as well as the taste and odor of chlorine. The filter has a life of three months for average household use, and is certified by the Water Quality Association.

Nice! Thanks for the post. It's really awesome.

ya it is really awesome

I love that one, we currently use the brita water filter for the fridge but it's not that great.

Didn't realize they had a model that allowed you to filter and have hot water. Now that is different. I use a model that has a solid carbon filter and find it effective.

I think everyone should use some sort of water filtration system. Given how much our water systems are polluted, I would never go without drinking filtered water nowadays.

Will do some more research on this new model.

Thank you for the information

Cheers

Thanks for the post! I've been trying to find an alternative to my water bottle addiction and I think I've found my new love affair!

like everyone else I use a filter, and use a tap filter. I use the pur filter triple stage. it' a great help. I wonder if I'd like this since I drink spring water but use the filtered water to cook with and to make ice cubes ? I probably would like the heated side for tea.

Thanks so much for the post. I've also been trying to stray from my water bottle! Thanks for introducing a new option!

I'm glad that companies are getting serious about providing alternatives to bottled water. Yay!

Nice tool. This could be helpful.

we habe the same kind of filter. The tea smells better. I can reccomend this filter.

Anything to have people stop using bottled water. This seems like a really great filter that eliminates some harmful chemicals I don't want to be drinking.

I can't believe that we are filtrating water. 10 years ago I was drinking tap water and it was fine. Maybe a solution would be not to buy filtration systems, but reduce water pollution, wouldn't be that nice?

Yes, clean and clear water is very-very important for our health, because some dangerous diseases are caused by dirty water of low quality. So, thank you for worrying about people's health!

I bought this at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I thought it was a nice looking counter top appliance and I drink a lot of water. I also liked the feature of having hot water readily available for tea or hot chocolate. It does dispense slowly but it is just for me so that isn't that big a deal. What is a problem is that after a few days of running the product the water in the top resevoir was heating up. The appliance is supposed to have a hot and cold water tank to heat or chill the tap water, but all the water in the top resevoir was heating up to sauna level temperatures. Now when I push the tap water button I don't get room temperature water -- I get very very warm water. I don't feel it can be very healthy to have warm (but not hot) water sitting around on a counter top. Seems like the perfect place for bacteria and things to grow. I'm extremely disappointed, because up until today i was very happy with this product. Now I'm going to need to take it apart, dry it off and return it to the store. Cuisinart should be ashamed for putting such a crappy product on the market.

Ian, I'm sorry you had a negative experience with the product. Definitely do return it! We have been using it for about 2 months now and haven't had this problem (I just dispensed a nice, cold glass of water from it this morning), so I think your purchase was on of those where you happened into a malfunctioning unit.

Could you not consider another solution such as a simple Water Pitcher Filter? The other thing that I do not really agree with is leaving this filtered/purified water in a plastic container. I would like to see use of a glass reservoir.

The best solution would be to have pure clean water out of the tap. In our home we also use the GE smart water system that is in our refrigerator, the water pitcher filter systems are good for use in your kitchen, not so much the home office or the play room let alone the office at work.
