Welcome to the June 16th, 2008 edition of All Things Eco.

All Things Eco Blog Carnival

Be sure to Stumble the posts you like, or submit them to other social bookmarking services. Let's promote each other, as well as this blog carnival.

To start with, I'd like to apologize to Jose and Lori, who submitted articles to last week's carnival that I missed, and am posting in this week's. Sorry again, guys!

Be sure to Stumble the posts you like, or submit them to other social bookmarking services. Let's promote each other, as well as this blog carnival, because I want to see more posts coming in!

Keep sending me more tips for this week's Eco-Friendly Friday Tips. Also, I'm looking for some guest bloggers, so if you are interested (you would, of course, get some sort of author byline with your link in it), contact me. If you want to post on a recurring basis, I will set you up with an account on Focus Organic.

Jose DeJesus MD presents Cash Before Treatment - The Crisis in Medical Care Funding posted at Physician Entrepreneur. - Dr. Jose DeJesus discusses the unsustainable current arrangement where negotiated payment rates do not reflect the real healthcare costs and suggests some alternatives to the current situation.

Lori Jewett presents The Earth Runneth Over - Musings on Birth, Death, Nature and Population Control posted at Between Us Girls. Lori says, "Are you as upset about our shrinking green spaces as I am? Here are some of my thoughts on what's going on and what we need to do about it." Don't worry, guys, Lori is not some radical who pushes the one child law like in China, she is just providing commentary on how our drastically increasing populations are causing harm and speculates as to what can be done about it. Here is a stunning fact from her post:
What I didn't know was that in the last 100 years of human progress, population growth and industrialization, the forests of Pennsylvania have been reduced to 1/10th of 1 percent of their original size. Think about that for a moment. In only 100 years, human progress has almost completely obliterated Pennsylvania's forests.

Loren Larkin presents World's Largest Solar Plant Coming to Arizona | Today's Gizmos, Gadgets & Tech posted at Today's Gizmos, Gadgets & Tech. My 2¢: I love the idea of solar power, and this plant being able to light 70,000 homes is great. Based on the picture of how the plant will look, though, I can't help but wonder... what happens to the greenspace it is taking up? These are the side effects of Lori's post above :)

Zachary Folwick presents Organic corn-fed beef: paying for nothing posted at Pennywise and Poundfoolish. Zachary says, "most of the "organic" beef that you pay for. . . isn't exactly right."

AdmirableIndia.com presents Trip to Chikmagalur: Day 2: Trekking in Mullaiyanagiri, highest peak of Karnataka, Kalathgiri Falls and Raj Bhavan, Kemmangundi posted at AdmirableIndia.com.

Mama Bear presents I've Got A Little Space To Fill: The Big Dirty (Clean, That Is) Pt. 2 posted at I've Got A Little Space To Fill. Remember my post on non-toxic cleaning products? This is another great post on the same topic, but Mama Bear includes recipes for how to make your cleaning products! Definitlely getting bookmarked on my end.

Niharika presents 53 Easy Tips to Use Less Water posted at EcoTrekker. The most thorough list of tips to save water I have ever seen!

vegoftheweek presents R-Rated Fruits And Vegetables: Your Guide To Buying Organic Produce posted at vegoftheweek. Similar to our post on Choosing What Produce to Purchase Organic, with vegoftheweek's commentary :) It's great to see more people making that information available to others.

Lane Wright presents Why We've Got Salmonella In Our Tomatoes posted at Vegan Bits. My question to everyone: Do you have tomatoes again where you are? Most places here do not, excluding Panera, whose tomatoes always seemed higher quality to begin with. What I wonder is, if Panera can purchase tomatoes (and they have signs up saying they will only purchase from USDA approved sellers), why cant other places? Are they not purchasing from USDA approved sellers?

Katrina Cain presents What is the Biggest Rainforest in the World? posted at What is the Biggest.... Katrina makes an interesting observation on soybean production in this article.

Matt DiChiara presents Economic Stimulus Act to Benefit Apartment Owners and Environment? posted at MyNewPlace Blog. A section of Matt's article:
The Economic Stimulus Act... also increases to 50% the amount a landlord can write-off for the first year. A landlord would therefore be able to deduct half of the cost of any “qualified leasehold improvements" from his or her total taxable income.

This is the perfect opportunity for apartment management companies to take on green projects that offer long term benefits...

Louise Manning presents Wind farms posted at The Human Imprint.

MBB presents Healthy and Frugal Boca Veggie Burgers (even some of us married people, namely me, can't cook well, MBB!) and Save Money and Water By Getting A Free Car Wash In The Rain posted at Money Blue Book: Personal Finance Blog. After my post on Eco-Friendly Car Cleaning, I've seen a number of people saying to just let the rain wash your car. Do you all have magic rain? When it rains here, my car is always left with water spots and dirty windows!

Liz Lewis presents Ski Green with the Green Ski Resort Guide. posted at Traveling the Green Way. Liz says, "For anyone looking to ski the green way."

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of All Things Eco using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

  2. Stefanie, get carnival and plenty to read. Thanks for including my 'ski resort' post.

Just one thing - the blog carnival has managed to get my blog site wrong - it's reading 'Travel & Culture - Channel Feed' and it should instead read Traveling the Green Way
    (http://wwww.travelingthegreenway.com)

Would be good if you could change it.

    Thanks,

    Liz

  4. Mama Bear, no problem! :)

Liz, sorry about that! I don't know how that happened, I copied the info straight from the email I got from BlogCarnival...

Matt, that is really weird! I've never had anyone tell me they get the mail sent to me bounced back. It's especially weird since the one I sent to you bounced back to me. Something doesn't want us contacting each other... *hums the Twilight Zone theme*
