All Things Eco Blog Carnival

Be sure to Stumble the posts you like, or submit them to other social bookmarking services. Let's promote each other, as well as this blog carnival.

Glad everyone was able to wait an extra week for the carnival :) It felt a little weird to me not posting one last week, all week I kept feeling like I forgot to do something, even though I did it on purpose. I've already gotten two submissions for next week's carnival... sign of another good one for next Monday? I hope so :)

On to the carnival...

Jim presents » Recycling Earns Money For Your County on Blueprint for Financial Prosperity posted at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity. Jim's town earns $54 per ton of recycling vs. spending $33 per ton of garbage. It's a wonder they didn't heavily encourage recycling earlier.

Stephanie presents Homemade Fabric Gift Bags with Ties posted at Make It From Scratch. Complete with directions and pictures.

Matt DiChiara presents Apartment Rental News Weekly Roundup posted at MyNewPlace Blog. Including news on green apartments, NYC apartments, and off campus apartments.

Greg McGuire presents Hybrid Vehicles and Alternative Fuels posted at Energy Efficiency Advisor. From the article:

Each type [of alternative fuel and hybrid vehicle] has its own unique advantages and disadvantages that should be considered before you buy an alternative fuel or hybrid vehicle. These factors are discussed below.

RecycleCindy presents Recycled Mini Shoulder Bag and Recycled Round Plarn Rug posted at My Recycled Bags.com. For the mini should bag Cindy says, "Here is my little plarn purse. It's crocheted from recycled plastic bags or plarn as we crafters call this material. This makes a cute little girl's shoulder bag or for us big girls too. I have a free pattern available for all who'd like to create this eco purse!" For the plarn rug she says, "Crochet yourself a handy plarn round rug. Here is a free crochet pattern for your personal use. It made from recycled plastic bags."

Michelle Kennedy Hogan presents Homemade Christmas Gifts for Kids - 5 things for $5 or less! posted at Organically Inclined. Some cute ideas, my favorite is the crayon idea!

Megan Dietz presents The Sunny Way : Conducting nature, or Why sustainability is not enough posted at The Sunny way. Megan says, "Let's not stop at sustainabile -- let's go for magnificent!" A very moving article, and here is a small quote:

We can’t stop at doing less harm to the planet. We must configure our societies so that they create wealth and beauty and justice as byproducts.

Flash Gordon presents Sustainable Ethanol: The Future of Energy Production? posted at Great New Books that Are a Must Read. A review on Sustainable Ethanol by Jeffrey and Adrian Goettemoeller.

Izmet presents Ozone Day 2008 posted at Izmet's Dream. On the ozone layer and ozone depleting substances.

AdmirableIndia.com presents Trip to Wayanad: Day 2: Part 1 posted at AdmirableIndia.com. Includes a couple recipes.

Charles Euchner presents START SIMPLE: Smart Wheels posted at START SIMPLE. Charles says, "Living green requires getting out of cars once ina while. Public transit doesn't come cheap, but Rochester, N.Y., is showing how to deliver bus service efficiently -- even cutting fares."

Kristen McCarthy presents Community Gardens: Transform Urban Spaces posted at this-sustainable-life.com. Kristen says, "Traditionally, community gardens emerge in the most unlikely spaces: from dispossessed parking lots and abandoned railway lines, to hubcap strewn parks and needle plagued back alleys, to the sagging rooftops that overlook laundry lines stretched out across the cityscape in multifarious patterns. In these areas rejected and wasted from human-made decay, urban gardens are birthed."

Louise Manning presents What is integrated farming? posted at The Human Imprint. From the article:

Agriculture is the only mechanism that will feed the world. Feeding the world whilst still maintaining the earth’s resources and protecting the natural environment is the aim of integrated farming.

Frugal Babe presents The Greenhouse Is Finished posted at Frugal Babe. For fans of Frugal Babe, this post includes a long awaited picture of the new greenhouse.

Supermom_in_ny presents Free Resuable Tote Bags, Cleaning Supplies and More! posted at Free Fab Stuff. Includes links for a free tote bag and more. Hang on guys, while I go fill out the form for my free bag...

Dave Hobbs presents The Right Nectar for Hummingbird Feeding posted at Hummingbird Feeding Guide. Dave says, "Hummingbirds add a fleeting touch of beauty to any garden but we're not all fortunate enough to have the right flowers to attract them. If you want to add a beautiful blown-glass hummingbird feeder to your garden, be sure you fill it with the right food. This post will help you."

Condo Blues presents Twenty Percent Home Energy Reduction Challenge – Summer Update posted at Condo Blues. Condo Blues says, "I'm trying to reduce my home's natural gas and electricy consumption by 20% this year without replacing everything I own. And guess? It's working!"

Julie Hall presents Beyond Climate Change 101 posted at on a ledge. From the article:

As with all meaningful change, there is no simple fix for our climate change crisis. There is no pill, band aid, 12-step formula, or “expert’s” advice to heal Earth or its life forms.

Sara presents Closet greenie: a still-chic thrift store outfit... posted at The Bargain Queens. Sara says, "I guess you'd call me a closet greenie: I'm not dogmatic or especially obvious about it, but I do believe we all have to do our part. For example, I thrift as much of my clothing as possible... but I hope my pic shows you can still be stylish without a trip to the mall ;)" I know that, Sara! Check out eBay for thrift items, the photos of the girls modeling them definitely say style doesn't need to come from a mall.

Erika Collin presents 100 Awesome Web Tools and Resources for Nutritionists posted at Nursing Degree Guide. A huge list including calorie counters, nutritional information and news links, healthy food guide and recipe links, and more. A must see for anyone trying to eat and live healthier.

Laurel presents Beautiful Weather, Good Reads posted at Green Thinking Blog. Laurel (whose name I have to say that I love) says, "In the spirit of making time for a little fresh air and sunshine, I’ve got a quick round-up of interesting green reads, from "Recycling Plastic" to "How to Talk to a Climate Skeptic" to "Matt Daman's Good Work Hunting." Enjoy!"

Surfer Sam presents Ten Tips to Cut Your Energy Bill in Half. Living Green for Energy Conservation posted at Surfer Sam and Friends. From the article:

We are hooked into a way of life that uses too much energy from sources that are not renewable. Our energy comes mostly from petroleum, about 40%, and from natural gas, about 23% and from coal, about 22%. These Big Three Fossil Fuels provide energy for electricity, heat and transportation, both residential and industrial.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of All Things Eco using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
