Welcome to the October 13th, 2008 edition of All Things Eco.

All Things Eco Blog Carnival

Be sure to Stumble the posts you like, or submit them to other social bookmarking services. Let's promote each other, as well as this blog carnival.

Volume 20! I think it's pretty cool All Things Eco has gotten this far, all thanks to you guys! I hope it keeps growing... tell your friends :D

So I've been busy with the redesign for the site of one of my closest friends, Amanda, for a bit now, but I think it all worked out well because the site looks awesome! We're working out a few kinks here and there and finishing up details... but, except for the one mistake on my part that broke the site temporarily (hehe oops), everything seems to be running well.

I got a few submissions this week that were pretty far from all things eco... please keep the submissions on topic! On to the carnival!

Izmet presents What makes a company "green"? posted at Izmet's Dream. From the article:
According to Co-op America, “Green businesses operate in ways that solve, rather than cause, both environmental and social problems. These businesses adopt principles, policies, and practices that improve the quality of life for their customers, their employees, communities, and the environment.”
Cheryl Taragin presents The Spewker Celebrity Politics Blog: Rally on the River JFXtival Sure Beats Driving posted at The Spewker Celebrity Politics Blog. Cheryl says, "Take a walk on the wild side with CherylT. Original footage of bi-annual Baltimore event to protect the Jones Falls Watershed."

Kat presents save water and $180/year posted at The Part-Time Life. Kat's city has a program for those with lower water usage where she gets to save $180 a year. Very interesting and something worth looking into in other cities!

Heather Johnson presents The Top 100 Environmentalist Blogs - X-Ray Technician Schools posted at Comments on: Top 100 Diet and Fitness Blogs. Amazing list of green blogs, Focus Organic was included!

Ilana presents Eco-Friendly Baby Shower Favors « The Hip Hostess posted at The Hip Hostess. Ilana presents a few very cool gift ideas for the eco-friendly mom to be.

Woman Tribune presents Good for Your Vagina, Good for the Environment posted at Woman Tribune. Can you resist reading a post with "Good for Your Vagina" in the title??? :D

Sarah Scrafford presents The 50 (Surprisingly) Dirtiest Things You Come Into Contact With Every Day posted at Web Design Schools Guide. Beware, germaphobes, this one might be too much! I want to add another thing to the list... You know those machines where you put in a quarter or 50 cents, grab the handle, and it tells you how great of a lover you are or something similar? Our local mall has these sitting right outside of the restrooms. If you would like to see the potential germ situation here, sit in a public restroom and nonchalantly watch how many people walk out without washing their hands to potentially touch that machine...

Tiffany Washko presents Celebrate Green! posted at Natural Family Living Blog. This post includes Tiffany's first podcast!

Heather Levin presents How to Recycle CFL Bulbs posted at The Greenest Dollar. From the article:
Most people don’t know that there is mercury in CFL bulbs. [...]

There’s not a ton of mercury in there, of course, but there is enough to leak out and hurt the environment. So, throwing them into the trash is a bad idea.

So, how do you recycle CFL bulbs? Where can you take them?
Jamie McIntosh presents Save Money with Organic Gardening posted at Jamie's Blog. Jamie says, "Everyone knows that green living techniques can save money by saving energy in the household. Earth-friendly organic gardens can also help you save money."

Patty presents Think Before You Pink posted at Little Green Stilettos. From the article:
While the pink ribbon campaign has raised millions, not all is kosher. An organisation called Think Before You Pink seeks to uncover those companies that are Pinkwashing.
Marlene Gundlach presents Building a Green, Energy Efficient Home posted at Energy Efficiency Advisor. Marlene's submission includes "tips on building a green, energy efficient home."

Grace presents What is 400 feet tall and goes whoosh? posted at Face to the Sun. A well researched article and very informative.

Mary@SimplyForties presents The Missing Link posted at SimplyForties. Mary says, "Reduce, reuse, recycle. What's missing?"

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of All Things Eco using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

  4. Thanks for bringing up the subject of the mercury in CFL's. I really think those will go down in history as a disaster. I cannot wait until LED technology and cost makes those the logical choice. most CFL end up in the trash. The mercury goes everywhere, and eventually gets walked into your house, etc. Even a little mercury can hurt a child.
