May 14th's Tip
Garage Sales: A great way to find unique items that would otherwise probably end up in a landfill is to check out garage sales. With warm weather here, more people will be hosting them, so now is the perfect time to start looking!
Did you know there are websites specifically dedicated to garage sales where you can list your garage sales and find other sales to check out?
- Garage Sale Finder - Type in your zip code and it will show you garage sales in your area on a map!
- Garage Sales Tracker - Even has an iPhone app.
- Garage Sale Source - Search by country (US or Canada), state, and city.
- Yard Sale Search and Garage Sale Hunter - Not anything too special, but may have listings other sites don't.
Of course, craigslist is always an option when searching for garage sales, as well, but the point of this list was to show sites made JUST for this purpose! Good luck!

Gotta love the day when garage sales pop up around town - it means spring is in the air and summer is right around the corner.
Plus they are a great way to save money and help out the burden on landfills and the 'ol earth.

A great way to find something cheap and useful and not end up in landfill. We should think green.

Thanks for the resources! My mom and I love going to garage and yard sales. We went to two big garage sales this weekend. The garage sales were hosted by the university and the Army base. I actually caught a couple of deals.

Excellent garage sales resource, didn't think about searching them on internet, I usually just go to them if I see them in my way home

Hi! I have just discovered this fantastic site. It covers so many things I am interested in following. Babies, families, green living, positive living, going organic - just to name a few.
Garage sales are so popular here in Australia and if you are keen to get a bargain you need to arrive really early in the mornings. Some people that hold garage sales have people camped on their front lawns before the sun comes up. Great way to encourage recycling and more community generated economies.

I'm all fired up for garage sale season now that the weather is getting better. Nothing beats getting up early and hitting 3 or 4 of them on a Saturday before all the good stuff is gone.

Fantastic resource shared, thanks. My tip: you can also go onto car boot sales where you can buy/sell used goods cheaply. This is a great way to get rid of your unwanted items which may be useful to others. Car Boot sales are organised on weekends and mostly can be found in every borough in the UK. Watch out your local newspapeprs.

Thanks for the resource. I fully agree we don't have to buy everything new and sales are also a great way to spend your time just walking around and interacting with people.

Craigslist is also an option when you have items left over from the garage sale. We always post the leftovers and always sell most of it. Another option to save something from the landfill!

Great tools for eco-warriors! New parents rush out to buy all the latest gadgets and new equipment. Most of these don't get close to being used up by the time the children outgrow them. We need to lose the stigma of second-hand goods and teach our children not to be avid consumers from birth!
