November 5th's Tip
Halloween Pumpkins: Most people are just going to take their pumpkins and toss them in the trash. Instead of all that waste, why not recycle your pumpkin? You can compost it, along with fall leaves and other items you would normally compost. If you already baked the seeds, this tip is probably old news to you. If you have more pumpkins to decorate for the rest of the season, you can gut them and bake a yummy pumpkin dessert.
Also remember to keep your Halloween decorations/costumes for next year. You'll save money and waste!

We baked our pumpkin seeds this year - delicious. Both pumpkins went into the compost pile yesterday. No dice on keeping the costumes - guaranteed the kids will want something different next year, but that's what ebay is for!

I've seen on TV that you can give your pumpkins to the local zoo. They feed them to the hippos. Apparently, they love them. Another thing you can do with them.

Thank you so much for your earth friendly tip. Not many people would think to recycle their pumkins. Also, with all the plastics in halloween decorations and costumes it is also important to keep these for years to come. Thanks again for your eco-friendly advice!

You are right. After Halloween, a lot will probably just throw the pumpkins. I guess you've heard about the zero waste management. Instead of throwing them away, why don't we recycle them. If you're into cooking, make some pumpkins pie or anything you know. maybe someone should share a list of recipes here.
About the donating in zoo? I never heard about that, but it's a good idea. You help both the animals and the environment.

I'm definitely going to be composting my pumpkin. No need to add more waste to landfills when i can get a nice compost for my garden

Also, consider collecting all pumpkins from your own area and then making compost out of it. It is more effective as well as gives economical solution (in terms of usage of decomposing agents to enhance making compost).

Pumpkins are one of the fave vegetables that is used in some dishes of soul food cooking.
