December 18th's Tip

Last Minute Gifts: Still looking for a special gift for someone? Yesterday I posted some last minute gift options, but if none of these ideas will work for your gift, try looking for something completely unique. Check your local thrift stores for a piece of vintage jewelry. Look for an antique lamp or piece of furniture. Look through the hoards of knick knacks most thrift stores have for something that will be meaningful for the gift recipient - I know at our local stores, I almost always find at least a few things that people I know would love.

Many thrift stores also have book sections which might be worth checking out. If someone you know is searching for a particular book, you never know what you might be able to find in the books at a thrift store. A few years ago, I found a book in our local thrift store that I had been looking all over for.

Nostalgic gifts are all over in thrift stores, as well. Anyone that grew up in the 80s remember Casey the cassette playing robot? I found one at our local thrift store! I don't know about anyone else, but I love nostalgic gifts.

  1. Very nice information Stefanie, Your blog is one of the most wonderful places to visit.

  2. Thank you so much for the gift tips. I am really having a hard time looking for a special gift that can wow my love ones. Anyway I think the vintage jewelry is just perfect for my mom.

  3. Thrift stores are a great idea for gifts...for the most part, the recipient will be getting something not everyone else has.

I'm not sure how eco-friendly this one is, considering the use of paper and ink, but this year I made calendars with pics of my sons and nieces' on MS Publisher to print off as needed for family members who'd enjoy them.

It saves time and money and is a personal gift. When they're done with the calendar, they can cut off the months sections and recycle them, keeping the pictures for framing...maybe I'll make frames next year, LOL

As always, thanks for a great post!

  4. Sometimes there is no other way but to buy something as a last minute gift. I like to buy presents much more earlier to avoid unnecessary stress, huge crowds in shops and situations when I don't have time to buy something and I have to, because there is no backup of time!

  5. For me I've got a lot of nostalgia for video games from early nineties.

So I guess a stuffed Sonic the Hedgehog would work.

  6. I had a good rummage through our charity shop and found a fantastic vintage oil lamp, my mother loved it, and only cost $5 :-)

  7. What about Sega or first generation of nintendo??

That's unique and hard to find :D

  8. How about making jewelry? Nothing says "I care for you" more than a piece of thoughtfully handmade jewelry. My favorite gift to give is a charm bracelet, where the individual charms (purchased at low prices) can be customised to suit the recipient's personality. Every person I have ever made a charm bracelet or necklace for loved it!
