Eco-Friendly Friday

October 23rd's Tip

Recycling Old Pillows: If you're about to toss that old, stained pillow, think again. There are actually things you can do to reuse it. Before trying any of these ideas, though, wash the pillow well.

  • Reuse the stuffing inside of the pillow to stuff children's toys or or small decorative pillows.
  • Sew a cover onto the pillow and give it to your pet as a bed. If you have a larger pet, you can sew a few pillows together. Don't have a pet? You can donate your hand-crafted pet beds to animal shelters in your area.
  • In the spring, put the stuffing or feathers in a strawberry basket and nail it to a tree. Birds will pull the material through the holes and use it to make their nests cozy.
  • Use the stuffing to provide protection when you pack away delicate items such as breakable holiday decorations.
  • Sew the stuffing into long tubes, long enough to place along the bottom of your doorway to help stop drafts.

Disposing old Pillows has been a problem. As your advice I will try hanging them on a tree.

Thanks for your advice. It is very informative. I want to apply it with my dog. I want to give him a comfy pillow.

Wonderful tips, I love my pillow so don't want to leave it but I will keep those tips in mind :) Loved the tip on how we can help birds even.

What nature gives us, we should share them with others as well. This is how it operates and we can reduce wastage by it. For us, few things might be a piece of junk but for others it could be a diamond.

Thanks for these tips.

Greg

Thanks for the great tips. :)

Good Tip, thank you. I will try hanging them on a tree.
