Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and we've organized a few snack/gift ideas in case you needed some help.

  1. HomeFree Cookies

    homefreecookies.jpg

Looking for some non-candy snacks for Valentine's Day? Consider HomeFree cookies. They are organic, whole grain, free of peanuts, tree nuts, eggs and dairy, as well as corn sweeteners, artificial colors, artificial flavors, MSG, and genetically modified organisms. I can attest to their delicious flavor, with my favorite being the mini chocolate chip (very similar to those mini Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, but minus all the nasties). HomeFree cookies can be purchased online or at over 300 retail locations. Find yours here.

  2. Eco Wine Trio

ecowintrio_blue.jpgWine.com in partnership with Boisset Family Estates and EarthEra has introduced the Eco Wine Trio gift. This is the first offering of fine wines in PET bottles, delivering all the quality of glass bottles with a 50% lower carbon footprint and the convenience of a lightweight, unbreakable bottle. A fruit-forward Merlot, a lush Rhône red and a bright fruity Pinot Noir are presented in 100% recycled and recyclable gift box. Additionally, 10% of this product's retail price goes to the EarthEra Renewable Energy Trust where every penny is used to build renewable energy facilities in the United States. EarthEra also carbon balances the shipment of this product from the winery to the gift recipient.

My friend Jeremy and I agreed that these wines are surprisingly flavorful for how inexpensive they are ($29.99 for the 3).

  3. A Day at the Spa

Everything is beautifully packaged in a brown craft box, labeled and tied with hemp twine. $58.

Christine Mighion's jewelry is handmade from 14k recycled gold and ethically mined stones. Perfect for Valentine's Day, the Rose Gold Heart Earrings are formed individually from molten gold and each heart is unique. They are available in recycled rose gold and recycled 14K gold for $150 per pair, or recycled sterling silver for $50. The rest of Christine's collection is definitely worth checking out if you are searching for that perfect piece of eco-friendly jewelry.

  6. Lover's Gift Basket

The Lover's Gift Basket from Diamond Organics includes hand-selected fruit, award-winning artisan cheese, a sourdough baguette, organic wine or sparkling juice, silky body lotion and 1/4 lb of fine organic European chocolate truffles. Overnight delivery included in price of $169. Diamond Organics also offers a variety of other organic gift items (I'm drooling over the Boston Cream Cake photo...).

  7. Charitable Gifts

    charitablegifts.jpg

Some people would like to see money that would otherwise go towards a gift for them go to something that can help someone else. We included these options in our Christmas guides, but feel they are suiting for Valentine's Day, as well.

Heifer International has helped 38 million people to become more self-reliant for food and income. Through Heifer International, you purchase gifts of livestock and training in sustainable agriculture that helps hungry and poor families all over the world. A flock of chicks, flock of ducks, and flock of geese are all $20 each. An honor card is presented to the gift recipient, or it can be downloaded and emailed online.

World Vision Gifts offers a program similar to Heifer International, with different gift options. The gift recipient receives a card describing the gift and the impact it will have in the life of a person in need. A gift of 2 chickens is $25, and $350 worth of necessities to help deliver basics like new clothing, diapers, blankets, and shoes to help American children in poverty is also $25.

  5. These are all good ideas, especially for her :) If I should choose one of these presents, I would really have a hard time...

  6. Definetly the charity root is always the best option, and maybe then some hand picked flowers and a home cooked meal!
