January 23rd's Tip
Go Green Kit: If going green is one of your new year's resolutions, try putting together a go green kit. Small steps can make a big difference, and putting together your own kit (or buying one, if you are so inclined) can help remind you of the important steps you are taking to help our planet.
Your kit can include anything you can use around the house or out and about to become more green. Some examples include:
- stainless steel water bottle
- travel coffee mug (remember to bring it to the coffee shop with you!)
- cloth napkins
- natural cleaners / products to make your own cleaners
- natural bath products
- soy candles
- rechargeable batteries
- reusable shopping bags
- directions to your local farmer's market
Anything you can think of to help you go green, you can put into your kit. You can even put together a kit for friends or family to help them get started.

I have always thought of things like this; however, we also have to wash the mugs for instance! I understand that it is much better than throwing away a cup, but we can never go green fully! Sad...........

I go green through using washable plates, utensils, and glasses. I use biodegradable washing detergent and soap. I avoid using plastic bags. Since I don't drink coffee, I don't need a travel coffee mug.

Stefanie, the subscribers are not lost so don't worry. Google has had some major problems with the feedburner transfer but I read several places that the subscribers are slowly returning.

Rechargeable batteries not only reduce the number of alkaline batteries used because they can be recharged up to 1,000 times (last between 2-5 yrs) but they can be 100% recycled, for free, at many neighborhood locations. Visit the nonprofit http://www.call2recycle.org.

I think these are some great ideas on how to go green. I know that I am trying to do my part. Thanks for the kit list.

Hi, Thanks for this list. I dont use plastic bags and other stuff like this. Add paper bags in the above list.

I've stopped buying bottled water. Bottled water causes us to burn hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil to transport it and make plastic bottles.

Scanning your documents instead of making copies is a great way to save a tree.

I've also stopped buying bottled water. The news about the toxic chemicals leeching from the plastic scared me to death. My daughters had been carrying them around all day, drinking from them. I've since gone out and purchased a stainless steel bottle for this purpose.

Gabe, that is true, but it's not about eliminating our impact on nature - that would be impossible - just about reducing it.
SEO Outsourcing, paper bags aren't very good for the environment either! Reusable canvas/cotton bags are a MUCH better alternative.
