Go Green!

Use BPA-free reusable water bottles. If your tap water needs filtering, get a pitcher with a built in filter.

Eco-Friendly Friday

October 17th's Tip

Shower Curtains: Most are made of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). PVC has come under scrutiny for health concerns. When used for vinyl shower curtains and many other products, PVC offgasses harmful chemicals which can cause poor indoor air quality and health problems. These shower curtains are also easier to throw away when they become mildewy, and contribute to overflowing landfills because they do not break down.

What can you do? Next time you replace your shower curtains, try ones that aren't vinyl. Use nylon liners instead of plastic ones, and get cloth or hemp outer shower curtains.

Resources

Hemp Shower Curtains with Hemp Macramé Rings ($79-$109) - Can be used with or without a liner (see FAQ), and can even be used as window curtains. Made with biodegradable dyes.
Simple Memory Art ($32) - Non-PVC vinyl kids shower curtains, cute!
Organic Cotton Curtain ($79) - Comes with brass or chrome grommets
Soft Sensations Liner ($9.99) - Inexpensive, made of non-PVC vinyl
EVA Liner ($9.99) - Another option, from Target
Method Daily Shower Spray - Spray in your shower and on your liner to kill mildew

You can skip the shower liner problem all together and install a glass shower door. They aren't very hard to install.

Yes, it's more expesive than a shower curtain and liner but you only have to purchase it once and it's _much_ easier to clean than a shower curtain liner.

That is true, CondoBlues. Another good idea.
