July 18th's Tip
Greeting Cards: In the U.S. alone, about 7 billion greeting cards are purchased each year. Wonder how many trees go into making those cards? I'm not sure I want to know! Why not forgo the traditional card, and send an e-card? Another benefit to e-cards is many of them are free! If you don't want to go that route, try buying recycled cards (which any card shop should carry), or tree-free cards. You an even make your own cards out of recycled paper.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've always found greeting cards to be a waste, I much, much prefer a short e-mail message that's actually written by the person than some generic card they paid $5 for. My mom on the other hand is the complete opposite and I've been trying to explain to her for years that greeting cards are bad environmentally AND are more annoying than anything else but alas, baby boomers are wicked stuck in their ways.

Adam, my mom loves greeting cards, too. I bought her one a few years ago because the front was a reproduction of a beautiful piece of art, and she framed it!
