Excellent idea! Too bad I don't like vegetables. (Just kidding). Make sure you only buy organic local grown veggies at a local farmer's market. Organic is good for the environment and chemicals not flown half way across the world, locally grown to minimize carbon footprint, farmer's market to avoid the electricity required to run a supermarket.

Thank you for the link, Mike. I was going to research Technology News' tip because I've heard of this claim. I don't particularly like black backgrounds much because they make reading very difficult, so I'm glad to hear that claim is overrated.

Unfortunately this is mostly myth. The results vary greatly by monitor type, make, model, and size. Where there is savings, it's pretty insignificant. One Watt on average. Some monitors use more energy when viewing a black page. SEE: http://techlogg.com/content/view/360/31/

The biggest drawback is campaigns like this take away the uniqueness of everyones blogs. I personally like a dark site because I often work late at night (in the dark). I don't want ever site I visit to be black.

The best thing we can do is make sure our monitors and computers are off when we aren't using them. Better unplug them, or turn off power using a strip.

Hey I have got many environmental tips...
We can make most of our blogs look "BLACK".. This will yearly save a lot of power.. Usually all the blogs look white most of the part.. The monitors will consume a lot of power when they show white :).
Hope you will convert your template to black.... I cannot do that So I turned to "GREEN".

Mike, I understand completely about not planning well for shopping... I am HORRIBLE at shopping and always end up with too much or too little. Thinking about a soup/stew full of veggies is making me hungry...

This is a great tip that I'm surprised more people don't do. I used to have a bad habit of wasting veggies. Now about once a week I make either soup or a stew before anything goes bad. I could buy less, but all too often I just don't plan well enough. The best part is that any leftovers can be frozen and ready when I'm not in the mood for cooking a meal.
