As all of us here at Focus Organic know, eating organic and local is as good as it gets. Some of us have our own organic gardens, others shop at local farmer's markets. But what should we do in the winter, if we can't get local produce? Some of you know the answer... home canning.

Ball, maker of the mason jar, is celebrating its 125th anniversary (Happy Anniversary!), and the Ball Jar is older than the ballpoint pen, the zipper and the teddy bear (just an interesting tidbit!). Ball has come out with a fresh preserving kit to help get you started on home canning, and they were kind enough to donate one to our celebration, so we can celebrate together. ($59.99 value)

Features and Benefits of the Kit:

  • 21-quart water canner includes essential tools for canning fruits, salsas, pickles, jams and jellies and more:
  • Newly designed chrome plated rack resists corrosion and prevents small jars from falling through rungs for safe use year after year
  • Four piece utensil set with jar lifter, lid lifter, funnel and bubble remover and headspace tool that help to fill jars quickly and safely
  • New design features stylish blue porcelain color, vertical sidewall, and limited edition 125th Anniversary logo fired into the enamel
  • Enamel coated steel base is non-porous for easy cleaning and will not react with foods
