We've talked about the possibility of sending invitations over the computer rather than purchasing paper ones to save trees.
What about occasions where you REALLY want to send tangible invitations? A great, and beautiful, option is invitations made with handmade recycled paper. Andrew and I sent our made our wedding invitations out of handmade recycled paper, and they were gorgeous (ridiculously gorgeous, if I do say so myself, and i do
). An invitation made with handmade recycled paper is pretty much guaranteed to be admired and get compliments.
Twisted Limb Paperworks creates invitations of this kind. With everything from wrap invitations to circle invitations to pocket and bookmark invitations and more, there's a style for every taste, and it might even be difficult to choose. They also create business announcements and accessories and holiday cards, and can even put flower petals and wildflower seeds in the invitations/announcements, so they can be planted and bloom into beautiful flowers. DIY kits are available if you don't mind putting the invitations together on your own and want to save a bit of money.
From Twisted Limb:
Twisted Limb Paperworks is a carbon-neutral production art studio nestled in the wooded countryside of South Central Indiana. Here we sustainably create our colorful handmade 100% recycled paper using old colored office paper and grocery bags, recycled water, and inclusions of flowers, wildflower seeds, grass from our field and ferns from our woods.
Twisted Limb Paperworks embodies the meaning of eco - one of their invitation styles is embedded with grass cuttings from their own field. The color of the invites comes directly from the materials being recycled, no dyes used. They even use water recycled from their dehumidifiers and air conditioner when possible for the production of the invites! On top of that, they donate 22% of their profits to environmental conservation efforts and community groups each year.
Interested in purchasing from Twisted Limb? Sheryl, the company's founder, has donated a $150 gift certificate so you can do just that! There will also be a bag of their handmade paper remnants (for card making, gift tags, place cards, collages, scrapbooking) included for the winner!

The Circle Panel invitations including wildflower seeds...
Invitations with grace, and just what one needs!
Indiana's beauty all scattered within,
Seeds hidden, for flowers,
To send to my kin...
And also to friends and to people who care,
To tell them...in my heart - you are there!
