Green Toys

When you buy your children toys, do you worry that they might contain lead? Or that the plastic they are usually made of might be harmful to your children? Green Toys has a few toy sets to ease your minds.

The toys at Green Toys aren't made from your ordinary PVC, which can include dangerous chemicals, and was found in 47% of toys tested in a study last year performed by The Ecology Center. These toys are different - they are made from recycled milk bottles. Don't expect a cheap quality toy, either. The recycled plastic in the toys isn't thin like that of its milk bottle mothers, it is durable and made to stand the tests of your little monster. The colors are great subdued hues, and the toys don't have that cheap shiny look, either. Don't worry about lead in these toys, they go through a number of strict tests to ensure safety, and they are created and tested in California. Toy options include the tea set, indoor gardening kit (which includes organic Teddy Bear sunflower, basil, and zinnia seeds!), sand play set, and cookware and dining set (enough for 4 settings!).

The toys aren't the only green aspect - the packaging is too. All Green Toys are packaged in recycled boxes with no plastics, cellophane, or twist-ties, and are 100% recyclable.

Interesting information to note is the amount of energy saved by creating these toys in comparison to standard plastic toys. For every pound recycled milk jugs used in the making of Green Toys, the energy equal to 3000 AAA batteries is saved. Enough electricity is saved to power a TV for 3 weeks, and a laptop computer for a month.

Green Toys can be purchased at a number of retail stores (locate one near you) and at online retailers including Amazon, BabyCenter, and more.

This green toys are very adorable, Stefanie and it would be a suitable gift to those that love the green stuffs. Now, with these green toys, mothers no need to worry about the dangerous chemicals that containing inside the toys anymore...

My husband and I always wonder what is safe for our babies. Thanks for including this set; it looks perfect.

I have the task of getting my niece a Christmas gift and this will be perfect. She really enjoys having tea parties with her brother. They can both get something out of this. Thanks for sharing.

Good advice for your toys.

Wilson, it's especially important to be careful when buying toys for children, especially with the semi-recent lead paint scare.

ToteNTots, it is difficult to know sometimes, but I think more companies are setting stricter standards for toys now.

Angel, the tea set is the one I received, and it is definitely adorable!

Thanks for the wonderful info on these toys. As the mom of 2 young boys, I'm always looking for safe, fun toys. We're also trying to be more ecologically-minded.

Another great and timely article!

Web-Betty, glad you enjoyed it :)

Stephanie, great post.

Babies are very susceptible to chemical irritants because their skin is five times thinner than an adult’s.

So it never ceases to amaze me how many chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and toxins are present in mainstream baby toys.

If parent's really knew what was going on and were properly informed, they'd buy only certified-organic products for their children.

Keep spreading the good word.

With eco friendly toys, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I just wish the big name toy companies would implement this concept. I'm not sure if they understand the marketing opportunity this offers. Adding this niche to their inventory might even create new jobs!

Thanks Stephanie

I totally agree with you that parents' number one qualities of toys to consider to buy should be safety. There's nothing important in this world other than giving the best for your kids.

I agree as well. The smartest thing a parent can do is to check "reviews" on toys they purchase for their kids. With so many resources available out there on the internet, it's very easy to check before you buy.

Unfortunately, many parents overlook this opportunity and end up wasting money on a toy product that is unsafe or, just as important, offers no educational qualities.

Sarah, it amazes me how many chemicals can be found in baby products, too, but it seems that more and more people are learning and companies are starting to do something about it.

I think we need to be very careful what we purchase and always do our research, whether it's something for a child or not!

Love, love, love these toys. We have some of these toys already and I'm excited to see that they have more boy toys to choose from. Our favorite place to buy is http://www.limeblossomnaturals.com. They have great organic products.
