The Water Conservation Resource recently declared that California is currently facing severe water challenges. While the effects of California's wasteful water habits are adding up, 17-year-old Ally Maize, founder of local nonprofit Green Youth Movement, believes that daily changes can make a significant impact. In a partnership with waterless auto detail company, Eco Detail, the Green Youth Movement is hosting its first waterless carwash to spread local awareness for water conservation while providing easy tips and solutions to living green. The Green Youth Movement's waterless carwash is taking place today, October 17th, 2009 at the Barrington Dog Park in Brentwood, CA.
As a local nonprofit organization that aims to educate teens about environmental awareness and sustainability, members of the Green Youth Movement are constantly on the lookout for simple green living tips that everyone can use. Eco Detail recently developed an environmentally friendly 2-in-1 wash and polish technique that utilizes a plant derived polymer compound to clean and protect cars. The best part: Eco Detail does not require water, therefore eliminating a significant amount of water waste - just the kind of green living solution that the Green Youth Movement advocates.
"Living sustainably becomes much more do-able when the solutions make sense and are readily accessible. Most people don't realize that everyday activities, such as washing your car, can add up to a lot of water waste," says Maize. "Hosting this waterless car wash is our way of showing the community one example of how a simple lifestyle change can benefit the environment."
The environmental and financial benefits of a waterless carwash include:
- Saving up to 100 gallons of water per vehicle washed
- Saving money by cutting your water bill
- Preventing sewer pipeline systems from corrosion and clogging
- Protecting aquatic life from the run off of toxic cleaning products
"The main reason why I decided to support the Green Youth Movement is because I have two kids," says the Eco Detail Founder and CEO, Javier Virgen. "Environmental conservation is an issue that directly effects our generation and the next, and it's important that we do everything we can spread awareness about what we can do to contribute now."
Maize has also done her part to make sure her peers are involved. Maize's classmates, students from the Archer School for Girls, are pitching in to help wash cars and raise money for their senior class. So while water conservation remains an ongoing process, Green Youth Movement helps Angelenos do their green deed, one waterless carwash at a time.

Wow! I'm impressed to read that 17-year old girl cares about the water. I thought that young generation is self-oriented and ecology is the last item in their list of interests. Good to know that I was mistaken!

Makes sense and sounds good. It's the simple things that can make a difference in the long run. It's good to see things like this happening though where people do care enough.

As I know California is one of the most successful states in the USA. So it is not surprising that there are ecological problems. Civilization always leaves its trace on the nature:(

Water less carwash thats a good idea, I'm happy to know that kids this days are more aware about our environment and hope we are not to late on saving it. There must be more advocacy on saving nature.

It was interesting for me to know about such an organization as Green Youth Movement. I think they'll achieve some valuable results. But the question is: will people pay attention to their call?
