Who needs bookmarks? The Greenbar Toolbar is a plugin for Firefox and Internet Explorer (like the StumbleUpon Toolbar) that lists a large group of eco-focused blogs and websites. It's like having all of these sites bookmarked in your browser, but easier, because you don't have to find and bookmark them, and the Greenbar keeps them right at your fingertips. It also aggregates feeds to make it even easier to find content that interests you.
But Greenbar isn't only for making browsing eco sites easier, it also has some other built in abilities. There are gadgets, including a calculator, a notepad to type your to do lists, Sudoku, and more. There's a Facebook widget and a Twitter widget, too. You can search the net from the toolbar, or it can be set up to alert you when you have email, a feature I don't personally need because my mailbox is always open
You can even have it display your local (or not local) weather.
All of these options are, of course, customizable. You can remove what you won't use, and add it back later if you want it.
So, go download your Greenbar Toolbar and get to browsing!

Cool! I'm going to try that out. If anything, it'll be fun to find more "eco" sites.

It sounds lgreat, but I think I have too many toolbars installed already, what with Stumble Upon, Entrecard, and a bunch of bookmarklets, etc.

I prefer to keep my Firefox clean and simple and only install the minimum necessary (to me) plugins. But reading about this toolbar reminded to be more aware of the issue!

Mike, it definitely makes finding more eco sites a lot easier
Jennae, your site is actually listed in the toolbar
And I know what you mean about too much going on in Firefox. I turned off the StumbleUpon toolbar for the Greenbar. I'll turn it back on when I want to use it, of course.
Makayla, I don't think you'll get bored with the sheer amount of content you can find through the Greenbar
AAT, you'll find a lot of eco-friendly information on the sites listed in the toolbar!
Tara, hope you have fun with it!

Hey Stefanie (my sister spells her name your way too!),
I would download the tool bar, but wanted to make sure that it doesn't install any of that wonderful ad/spy ware type stuff. The website doesn't say that it's free of ads/monitoring software. If you have been using it regularly, have you had any issues?
Thanks
Joe

I find that cool, but since i am confused on something. The privacy of surfers. As those toolbars are recording and also those data is used by several ad agencies, i really can not rely myself on them ( google included !! )

Awesome concept -- I will be downloading it after I finish this comment. I think it's good someone finally jumped on the bandwagon and developed a green app/add-on.

great idea. do new "green" sites get added automatically? is there any method of ranking them where they appear?

Organic Linens, I'm not sure if sites are added as they are found, but you can suggest sites to the people who run Greenbar. http://www.greenbartoolbar.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=41
You can't rank how they appear in the list.
