I got an email the other day about a new site, IzzitGreen.com. Here is a section of the email:

It's a Boston-based site that rates local businesses, stores, services, restaurants, etc based on how good they are but also how GREEN they are. It’s a small start to changing our attitudes on consumption and will hopefully give consumers knowledge of what they are really supporting. Right now the site is just local, but eventually with enough positive feedback and following, it will be launched in several cities.

I checked the site out, and think it is a great idea (and the little green monster mascot is adorable). I'm not in Boston (although I would prefer that to where I am, I miss New England so much!), so I hope that it does get launched in other cities soon. Even if you do not live in Boston, it is worth taking a look at. There are guides on the site to help you decide how green businesses you visit are. They say, "Our business guides are here to help you ask “Is it good?” and “IzzitGreen?” in your community." Currently, there are guides for Coffee Shops, Dry Cleaners, Florists, Food, Movie Theaters, Nightlife, Restaurants, Shopping, Yoga & Gym, as well as a General Guide.

The Latest Columns section has a few interesting articles so far. My favorite definitely has to be the 2-part series "Getting to Know You(r Trash)." Part one documents week one of Jordan's mission to throw nothing away for two weeks, while in part two, she realizes that week two is a little harder, with less eating out. This experiment is an amazing way to realize how much trash we really go through, and would probably surprise A LOT of us if we all tried it.

So, even if you don't live in Boston, you can benefit from registering for IzzitGreen. On top of learning something new through the informative and entertaining articles, as well as learning about the "greenness" of Boston businesses, registering has a couple of other bonuses.
