Jumpstart to Green

"There are 110 million households in the U.S., and our research tells us that most of them want to live a greener lifestyle. They just don’t know where to start," said Doug Donovan, co-founder of Jumpstart to Green.

Jumpstart to Green is a new company that wants to make going green easy for anyone who is just starting out. Jumpstart to Green is all about going green - as a virtual company based in Boston, they have no corporate office, so "no internal memos filling the recycle bin and no commuter workforce." Their motto is "Save a little. Save a lot. Save the planet," and they want to help you do just that.

The wonderful people at Jumpstart to Green have offered Focus Organic readers a chance to win their Jumpstart Complete™ kit, an $89.99 value!

  1. I believe the most useful item in the kit for my family is the Smart Strip powerstrip. With four children in the house, all with television sets hooked up with either DVD players, multiple video games, or VCR the power to these additional items gets left on for days sometimes. Having the Smart Strip powerstrip will help to say a ton of money.

  2. I have also added a post about your giveaway to my blog. Here is the link:

    http://sweepstakeshunter.blogspot.com/2008/11/jumpstart-to-green-giveaway.html

    Thank you!

  3. I could most use the SmartStrip power strip that automatically shuts off everything plugged into it once my computer or TV are off. I've been meaning to get one, because I always forget to unplug the idle electronics that drain power even when not in use.

  4. I'm subscribed to your email updates.

  5. I would love the insulated grocery bag because I do all my shopping by foot so it would help to keep cold items cold during my walk home.

  6. In our family, the shower timer would be a significant tool to green-ify our lifestyles! What a great prize package... I would love to win it!

  7. Everything sounds dandy, but I'm neither from the US nor Canada, so... *shrugs*

  9. The tank bank would be great. Since I live in an apartment, and never see a water bill, I think I am far too liberal with my water usage. I need to start making little changes.

  10. I subscribed!

  11. I think the light bulbs would serve us the best. Our electric bill would thank us. :)

  12. I've subscribed. :) Thanks for the great giveaway!

  13. I think the shower timer would come in so handy in a house with five members dwelling here.

The other this are equally important and I would love to win to jump start our "Green"!!!!

    Thanks,
    -barbarabaker :)

  14. I'm already a subscriber!!!! ;) -barbarabaker

    Happy Holidays to all!!!!

  15. I think this whole package will benefit me! I am most looking forward to the junk mail reducer and the green guides. the e-mail I used is christiecgc at gmail dot com

  16. The shower timer would definitely benefit our family. Some of us like to stay in the shower for way too long. Thanks for the chance to enter!
    princess3sah(at)cs(dot)com

  17. The insulated bags would be great for taking lunch, or bring home perishable groceries. We already have implemented the bulbs and a few other things (we even re-insulated our attic and closed off one furnace during the day when we are out). I am signing onto your email list with same email. Thanks.

  18. The shower timer would be most beneficial to me. I seem to lose all track of time in the shower, and this would be a great reminder! Thanks!!

  19. The compact fluorescent bulbs. I've started using them and they are great.

  20. I think the biggest one where we could really help make things green and save on our water bill: The Shower Timer....what a great idea. I know our showers last waaaayyyy toooo long. But I also need the power strip too.

  21. What would benefit us most? The power strip because I just can't seem to remember to unplug things, the water bottle because I've been meaning to switch us over from plastic, the light bulbs because the electric bill is heinous... I could go on and on!The whole kit is fabulous!

  22. I think the CFL light bulbs would be most useful for me. I'm moving into my first apartment and think they would be great in helping me reduce my electricity bills.

  23. Oh yeah, I subscribed via email!

  24. I would love to win this for my parents to help them green their home. Honestly, I think the most helpful thing for them would be the flourescent bulbs- such an easy switch to make, but they haven't yet!

  25. I seem to always need a new power strip or light bulbs. I'm in the process or switching out my bulbs now as the burn out.

  26. I just subscribed via e-mail.

  27. I picked the fluorescent bulbs - I have been switching as the old ones burn out

  28. I'd be most interested in the Toilet Bank, since I've been meaning to investigate that option with our toilets. What a great prize!

  29. I subscribed!

  30. I think the Flourescent Light Bulbs would be the most beneficial. Thanks, Samantha

  31. The water bottle looks most usueful!

  32. There are two items in this "kit" I would look forward to receiving, (1) the Junk Mail Reducer to stop the junk offers that come in the mail, and (2) the Smart Strip Powerstrip, so that when I shut down my computer (or TV) all of the peripheries will turn off as well, saving significant electricity and up to $63/year!
    Terrific giveaway!!

  34. I think the Smart Strip power strips would be the most useful for us. We generally do use reusable bags and bottles, as well as rags (though I don't know how the Euro Sponge is different), but turning off electronics is something we've been trying to do and failing to a lot of the time because it takes so long each time.

  35. The power strip for us. We have so many electric items that stay plugged in all the time, ghost draining our power, I know this is bad, right now we only have one TV set and DVD player plugged into a strip, could use about 4 more to get things under control.

  36. I subscribed via e-mail

  37. I like the klean kanteen - it will save the environment and save me money.

  38. This is a wonderful giveaway and I believe the shower timer would be the most beneficial item for me in this contest. I have a teenager son who needs reminded when to stop the shower and this would help. Thanks.
    Cindy

  39. I think that EVERYTHING would be useful, but I would really like to have the water bottle, as we drink a LOT of bottled water (since I'm always on the go) & I really need to STOP.

    Zippy

  40. I would like to try the euro sponge cloths - I am trying to use less paper towels and reduce waste. We are recycling more and more but you cannot recycle paper towels. Love that these are biodegradable

  41. I subscribed via email

  42. I subscribed! Thanks

  43. That's a tough one-- they all look so great. I'm am going to say the waterbottle, because I am so in need of one and they are kind of hard to find.

  44. I think the water bottle would be one of the most useful things for our household. We need to kick our use of disposable water bottles.

  45. I subscribed :)

  46. I think the Klean Kanteen™ water bottle would be the most beneficial for me right now. I currently use plastic bottles which create waste and plastic contains toxins.

  47. [...] Contest URL: Click here [...]

  48. I subscribed, loving this giveaway!!!

  49. I think the most useful item for my family would be the Smart Strip™ powerstrip. I would use it either with the entertainment center or the computer and think it would save a lot of electricity.

  50. The shower timer. I've pretty much drilled it into their heads about turning off lights and appliances that aren't being used, but I still can't pry them out of the shower in order to save water.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  51. I'm a subscriber!

  52. I think the Klean Kanteen™ water bottle would be the most useful for my family. We take water (in reusable bottles, of course) with us wherever we go.

  53. I think the Shower Timer would be great for our family especially with a teenage daughter!

  54. I think I'd really like the toilet tank bank because a minimum of five people are flushing every day and to save water could be a real green contribution.

  55. The zip-top Insulated grocery bags would be very useful for me. I take the bus to go grocery shopping and this I really need.Thank you so much for the awesome giveaway!

  56. I'm a subscriber.

  57. I think the junk mail reducer kit would be a wonderful tool for our household! I get stuff constantly and I feel guilty about it even though I didn't send it! jinglesells at gmail dot com

  58. The junk mail reducer for sure! Actually every thing in the kit would be helpful. Save the planet!

  59. I subscribed!

  60. My most needed item from the kit would be the shower timer. I know I take way too long in the shower but I can't seem to break the habit. This would be a great reminder for me to hurry up! Plus, I could wake up later for work because I would need less time to get ready. It's a win-win!

  61. I subscribed to the e-mail updates!

  62. What a great giveaway. I love the smart strip and the insulated grocery bags.

  63. I just signed up to get your blog via e-mail.

    Looks like a great blog!

  64. I think the Smart Strip power strip would benefit us the most. The kids are always leaving things plugged in and forgetting to unplug them. I am guilty of it too. We are gradually replacing our light bulbs with the fluorescent bulbs so more of them would also be great!

  65. I subscribed to your email list.

  66. i'd love the shower timer. i always make a goal and stick to it but lose track of time and end up taking a longer shower than needed. i need to have control!

  67. I would LOVE to win this! I think the most beneficial thing would be the SmartStrip as hubby has all of his "stuff" plugged in constantly, and I'm sure that's a big drain!

  68. I think the shower timer would be best. I try to take short showers, but it is hard to judge how long I've been in the shower. This would definitely help!

  69. i'd like the insulated bags because sometimes i walk to the grocery store to buy stuff and this would really help.

  70. I think the fridge thermometer would help us the most. I am constantly chasing the fridge temperature around based on things freezing or not, and I would love a steadier way of tracking the temp.

  71. I subscribed!

  72. I have to day I would benefit from the shower timer. My husband is great, but I do love that extra couple of minutes.

  73. I just signed up for email subscription!

  74. I think we would use the lightbulbs first! We've been slowly changing over and its so nice we rarely have to change a bulb! The grocery bags would be great too! And I definitely need to reduce the junk mail. I think I'd like all of it honestly :)

Thanks for the chance to enter and win!

  75. We really need the toilet tank bank.

This weekend, I stayed in a guest house where the water used in the toilets was captured rain water and snow melt off. I really wondered how much treated drinking water we waste just flushing!

  76. Oh so many items in this give away would be helpful but since I have a few more old light bulbs that need changing to cfl's I will say they would be the most useful right now for helping us reduce our electricty use.

  77. The Smart Strip powerstrip will be most useful. I have been able to collect most of the other items and am saving to get a couple of these smart strips!

  78. Hey there, I subscribed to your feed via email!

  79. I'm such a geek that I'm literally drooling over several items in the prize pack. But honestly, the items I'd get the most immediate use out of is the CFLs. One of my CFLs burned out yesterday and I need to get a replacement!

  80. I think the most helpful would be the bills, and waste tracker. You never know how much you're spending/wasting until you start writing it down!

  81. I also subscribed to your feed

  82. I think the most helpful would be 2 things at least. First the light bulbs because at least 1 light is on all night because my little one is afraid of the dark and doesn't like night lights. Second would be the Jumpstart Tracker. Thanks for the chance.

  83. I subscribed via email.

  84. The most useful thing in the kit for me would be the shower timer. I tend to get carried away and spend way to much time in the hot steamy shower. Growing up in a house with 5 girls, this would have been a great thing to have. Thanks for the giveaway!

  85. I'm a subscriber.

  86. We will definitely use the grocery bags. I love that they zip.

  87. The lightbulbs would help cut down my power bill.

    dlcwin AT gmail DOT com

  88. What a wonderful kit! There's nothing in here that wouldn't be totally useful, but one that really catches my eye is the 3 Euro Sponge Cloths. I do all my dishes by hand and I really go through a lot of sponges, so I'd love to try something different.

Thanks so much for offering this great giveaway!

  89. The lightbulbs would help cut down my electric bill.I have been wanting to start using these but had a whole big supply of the old style bulbs I need to get rid of first.

  90. I would love the shower timer. My kids have a problem with taking LONG showers.

    bebemiqui82(at)yahoo(dot)com

  98. I think the light bulbs would be the most helpful for us. I have yet to try them. We really could use some help with the electric bill. I really need a jump start to go green. 102. The shower timer would be very useful to remind my hubby about wasting water when he is sleepy in the morning.

  103. I am interested in the Smart Power Strip and the Toilet Tank Bag, they both seem useful, easy to implement and I haven't tried them. I am absolutely opposed to CFL's: LED's are on their way!

  109. I like th light bulbs.

  110. At first, I thought I'd give this to my sister, who is very minimally green. But then I saw some items that I don't have that would be useful to me such as - Euro Sponge cloths, hot water temperature card,Klean Kanteen™ water bottle and maybe the junkmail reducer kit. So I would share between her and me. A bag full of eco goodies to share with your sister, what could be better!

  111. I subbed in google reader!

  112. I love the shower timer. Sure could use that around this house with two tweens and love the long hot showers. Thank-you for the giveaway!

  114. I think the Klean Kanteen would be very helpful. Trying to not use bottled water is really hard and having something like this would make it much easier and "cleaner"

  115. Almost all of it looks so helpful it's hard to decide which would make the largest impact.

What's striking me is how much marketing influences the ways we go green. Due to the PSA campaigns we've already switched most of our bulbs to compact fluorescents (& will switch the rest once we've upgraded some fixtures). Same with the shopping bags, although insulated would be a significant improvement.

However, I hadn't really considered monitoring the temperatures on the water heater or fridge, which would make sense to do considering those things are going all the time. Just monitoring the levels might help us reduce energy & save money big time.

  117. The shower timer`s a great idea. Sometimes it`d be nice to know how long I`ve been lingering in there...

  118. Is it OK tha ti am not really 'starting out' but i stillwant all the cool things [to share of course! ;)]...I think we are probably best off with the toilet tank bank since i have eager potty trainers...well, eager flushers at least...but i really want some of those Euro cleaning cloths

  119. I am subscribing to you too...i was going to anyway, but this just makes it more fun :) Great site!

  120. This looks like a great kit! The shower timer would be great for my daughter - if I would let her, her showers would last 45 minutes! And she's not even a teenager yet. Ugh. The lightbulbs would be great too - I have swapped out about half of ours, but we aren't there just yet. I also like the idea of the SmartStrip - I hadn't seen those before, but with kids and electronics, that sounds like a great idea.
Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  121. [...] you are interested in learning more about it, head over to FocusOrganic.com and read all of the info & get [...]

  122. We are fairly new to green living. We recyle, brush our teeth in the shower, compost but only now have we been focusing on organic products.
We could definitely use the insulated grocery bags. I can make regular shopping totes from organic fabric (the fabric arrives today) but how do you make it insulated?
    tote-n-tots at live dot com

Thanks for the chance at a great prize.

  123. There are so many useful items to help us live greener. My favorite would be 4 best-on-the-market compact fluorescent bulbs (75w equiv). Each month I try to replace a few of our old bulbs and this would help to get them all replaced that much sooner. I am always looker for ways to live better and do my part to live greener and to spread the word. I could share this with family to help them become more aware of green living.

I am also subscribed to the email updates.

  124. Definitely the Toilet Tank Bank to reduce the amount of water expended per flush. My house was built in 1927 and my toilet is ORIGINAL to the house...that's right...I have a 1920s toilet which means lots of water with every flush.

  125. I promoted your giveaway here: http://www.luck-happens.com/december-6.html. :)
