The MOTO W233 Renew cell phone is reportedly the world's first cell phone made with the use of recycled plastics from water bottles. Motorola also claims the phone to be 100% recyclable, as well as carbon neutral. The phone has earned Carbonfund.org's CarbonFree Product Certification and Motorola has created an alliance with Carbonfund.org to ensure all carbon dioxide required in creation, distribution, and operation of the phone is offset through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation.
"Today, natural resources, energy and time are more precious than ever before," said Jeremy Dale, corporate vice president, marketing, Motorola mobile devices. "From the product's design, to the packaging to our partnership with Carbonfund.org, we wanted to ensure that this device makes the right impact with consumers and the environment."
When designing the packaging, Motorola was able to reduce its size by 22 percent and the box and all of the materials inside are printed on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper. In addition, a postage-paid recycling envelope in box makes it easy to return your previous mobile phone for recycling at no cost.
The Renew will debut this week at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and is expected to be available in the US through T-Mobile in the first quarter of 2009.

I love the idea! But I don't think that the reason is the price of the resources but rather the free publicity they get by being eco friendly

I believe that this was a good idea from Motorola, and this mobile phone looks really great. So this could be a reason to buy such phone, but I think there have to be done some changes to make this phone more attractive for customers. Really great post at all.

Way to go Motorola regardless of their motives. Hopefully more companies pick up this idea and begin making affordable phones that are eco friendly.

I totally agree. I wasn't trying to say that it was a bad thing but merely that I didn't fully believe their reason behind it

Another nice mobile phone that is fully recycleable. Great invention, and hopefully other mobile phone companies would pick up this idea.

Much more companies should pick up this idea. I believe it's the future in mobilephone technology.

I also wonder about the motivation, Mikael!
Wilson, I'm not sure how much it will cost.

It's really good to see that Motorola Mobile company started this very Earth Friendly act. Thought it maybe a small act but it will lesser the pollution that we could get from burning water plastic bottles. We'll hope that this will serve as inspiration for other mobile company to start recycling non-biodegradable materials.

Very cool phone! I'm curious to see what Apple does with the iPhone as their new computers are becoming more eco-friendly.

Wow! That's very interesting.
NOKIA should also try doing same things as Motorola Company did.
There are many Cellphones now, having different models,
Companies are making more mobile phones to be released.
So recycling is the only way that helps our earth be saved.

I think it's great that phone companies are starting to make these kinds of cellphones. However, it's kind of unnerving because it sometimes seems like they're only doing it to suck us environmentally friendly people into buying the product.
