June 20th's Tip
Grilling: In this season of
grilling, you might consider grilling more veggies than meat. It's an eco-friendly choice, and healthier for you too! If you want to add tang, toss with black or clamata olives and feta; if you want more bite, add seasoned croutons and/or grated cheddar cheese -- all organic, of course! - contributed by

I found a recipe for
grilled new potatoes with garlic, which I haven't gotten to try yet, but it sounds delicious. The recipe says to place the potatoes on the grill over hot coals, but I imagine it would work find on other grills (hopefully, because we have an electric one!)

If you want to contribute a tip,
shoot us an email. Be sure to include your URL if you want a link to your site included with your tip! Since the 4th of July is on a Friday, I'll be looking for a good holiday related tip for that day. Next week's tip will be on preparing for the 4th of July from
Green Girl, so be sure to come back then!
Also, I'm looking for more people to take part in our blog carnival,
All Things Eco, which is posted every Monday.

Since we moved here (here being the St. Louis area) about 6 years ago, I have always said there are far too few trees. I
love trees and figure you can't really have too many. From an about.com article on
why trees are important:
Trees Produce Oxygen
Trees Clean the Soil
Trees Control Noise Pollution
Trees Slow Storm Water Runoff
Trees Are Carbon Sinks
Trees Clean the Air
Trees Shade and Cool
Trees Act as Windbreaks
Trees Fight Soil Erosion
Trees Increase Property Values
On top of all of that......
I was walking out of the store today with my products in my reusable shopping bag when the idea for this post occurred. I was behind two girls walking out with two plastic bags for their products. One bag had a gallon of milk in it, the other had a bag of chips. What, I wondered, is the need for one bag, let alone two, when the products could just as easily have been carried with no bags? And the seed was planted... So I'm here to talk about eco pet peeves.
Littering This has to be my biggest eco pet peeve. Litter is EVERYWHERE. As much as garbage on the ground bugs me, I think cigarettes on the ground bug me more. How hard is it to walk the extra 10 feet and put your cancer stick in the cigarette disposal containers?...
I got an email the other day about a new site,
IzzitGreen.com. Here is a section of the email:

It's a Boston-based site that rates local businesses, stores, services, restaurants, etc based on how good they are but also how GREEN they are. It’s a small start to changing our attitudes on consumption and will hopefully give consumers knowledge of what they are really supporting. Right now the site is just local, but eventually with enough positive feedback and following, it will be launched in several cities....
