I hate to be a nerdy greenie, but I’m a little proud of my grocery bags. Every week, on my visit to the local supermarket, I get at least one or two compliments on them. “Wow, so sturdy.” “Whoa, these are nice.” They hold everything, I don’t worry about the handles, and they’re easy to load/unload.

And, of course, they’re green.

The bags themselves are made out of a version of “next generation recycled PET,” a material made from recycled plastic bottles and containers. Slightly different than most of the grocery bags out there, these are the same shape and size of the standard brown paper bags found in most stores - except they won’t break between the car and the house!

You, too, can be a grocery greenie with your own recycled PET bags. Reusable Bags has a whole host of bags to choose from, including my compliment-worthy ones.

Earth Days Trailer

Earth Days’ secret weapon is a one-two punch of personal testimony and rare archival media. The extraordinary stories of the era’s pioneers—among them Former Secretary of the Interior Stewart Udall; biologist/Population Bomb author Paul Ehrlich; Whole Earth Catalog founder Stewart Brand; Apollo Nine astronaut Rusty Schweickart; and renewable energy pioneer Hunter Lovins—are beautifully illustrated with an incredible array of footage from candy-colored Eisenhower-era tableaux to classic tear-jerking 1970s anti-litterbug PSAs. Directed by acclaimed documentarian Robert Stone (Oswald's Ghost, Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst) Earth Days is both a poetic meditation on humanity's complex relationship with nature and an engaging history of the revolutionary achievements—and missed opportunities—of groundbreaking eco-activism.

The following is a guest post from Venk. When I was a child, I remember my father always telling me to get up on the right side of the bed. Every time I would move to the left, he would warm me again to get back into the bed and get up on the right side. I never understood…
