This is a scary thought, but did you know that the paraffin wax that is in most candles consumed by American households is a by product of oil refining? Paraffin comes from the sludge at the bottom of the barrel of oil. That sludge then goes through a chemical and bleaching process to create the paraffin wax that is used in the manufacture of paraffin candles. Fragrance and dye are added, then the mixture is poured into a jar, wicks are added, and presto, you have a candle.
Since paraffin is from oil, a black soot collects on your candle jar and in and around the areas of your home where you burn paraffin candles. This article highlights the benefits of burning soy candles which as you've said is much better for the environment in your home as well as outside. They also don't have to cost more than their paraffin based alternative. Thanks for bringing this info to light with this article. Lets hope more people chose the more sc-friendly soy candles instead as a result of reading this.
