I cut several rectangles (about 4 inches by 9 inches) out of old t-shirts, and sew them together. Then I sew this thick layer of cotton into the diaper, between the outer layer and the liner. Makes them very absorbent, and is a great use for a t-shirt that's past its prime. (of course if it's a vintage Whitesnake concert tee, it could become the outside of a diaper instead of the hidden layer) :) I've been making diapers for my son recently, and found that t-shirt material is a perfect inner layer.
