Valentine's Day is right around the corner, as we know from Adam's guest post, Making Your Valentines Day a More Loving Shade of Green. Some commenters believe that a woman is not going to enjoy a thoughtful, romantic day at home - that we only enjoy being taken out and spoiled and if a lot of money isn't spent, we will not be happy. This couldn't be further from the truth for many. What about men? Would you enjoy a thoughtful day at home rather than a night on the town?
So let's talk gift ideas. That's what this week is going to be all about - gift ideas for Valentine's Day (or any day you might like to spoil a loved one a little!).
What would be a better way to start the day than with breakfast in bed? Put together a few of your loved ones favorite breakfast foods and serve it to them in bed, and they're sure to be in a good mood the rest of the day. Even if they only eat yogurt in the morning, being served in bed is going to make that yogurt that much more special.
It doesn't have to end there... You can continue this theme throughout the day. While you probably won't stay in bed all day (although you could!), you can still make lunch and dinner for your loved one, and it will be even more special if you don't normally do that. If it's warm enough, you can go out in the back yard or to a nearby park and have a picnic for lunch, or you can set out a picnic on your living room floor if it is too cold outside. For dinner, light some soy wax candles and make it romantic!

We stayed in last year and bought food and entertainment for the evening (as we couln't get a baby sitter) Surprisingly it ended up costing more than going out after trying to be adventurous and buying lots of fresh herbs and spices. Neither of us are particularly good at cooking so the food didn't taste that good either, so this year we are going to make the most of eating out. I do like the idea of being pampered for the day though so will have to drop some subtle hints.

I will be spending Valetines day at home and having a lovely romantic meal, to be honest I find as nice as it is to go out on Valetines Day it can be quite expensive and prices here seem to go up quite a bit just because its Valentines Day, I think its just as nice to stay in and as you say do a few extra little things they are the things that really make a BIG difference and more of a statement!

I think a home cooked meal is a great place to start. That and some scented soy candles to create atmosphere!

Well, it's not always an easy task to think of a thoughtful Valentine's gift for the other half. Your idea of staying right at home to celebrate this lovable occasion is yet another green way. Yeah, it saves the mother earth & our wallets too!
Lovely!

I couldn't agree more that staying home and spending time with the family would be an awesome treat. No days, the family unit is so busy running around, there really is no time to enjoy the little things.

I just heard an ad on the radio for a local grocery store who was promoting the idea of staying in for Valentine's day. I guess with the economy as it is today, many people are looking at frugal ideas to celebrate Valentine's day. The ad was suggesting such ideas as preparing a special meal, buying candy or baking a special treat for your loved one. Sounds like a great idea!
