Eco-Friendy FireworksWith the 4th of July tomorrow, I know many of you (or at least our American readers) are planning on seeing some fireworks. I'm sure, too, that you all know fireworks are... well, unhealthy for us and the environment. Besides the smoke and nasty chemicals released by the fireworks, they can also leave a lot of litter. Among common chemicals in fireworks are potassium and ammonium perchlorate, which can contaminate ground and surface waters and cause thyroid damage in humans as well as animals....

Fourth of July: Don't use disposable dishes, utensils, cups and napkins. These contribute to environmental "trash" and are not biodegradable.

If you already have fun "picnic ware," use that. If you don't, don't go out and spend $$... have each guest bring their favorite dish. It can be china or something hand painted....

Grilling: In this season of grilling, you might consider grilling more veggies than meat. It's an eco-friendly choice, and healthier for you too! If you want to add tang, toss with black or clamata olives and feta; if you want more bite, add seasoned croutons and/or grated cheddar cheese -- all organic, of course!...
