This is an easy pledge to do, it doesn't involve running a marathon, or raising money... you just have to click the link and pledge to not use plastic bags! How easy is that? Take the BlueAvocado pledge with me by clicking here: http://www.blueavocado.com/billion
While you are on that page, checkout the video of Schlumpy, the giant plastic bag ball. Schlumpy is campaigning all over the US to get plastic bags off the street. Not only is Schlumpy cleaning up the streets, but he wants to give money to KIVA... this is where you can help!
First off take the pledge! and spread the message by spreading the video and visiting Schlumpy at: http://www.blueavocado.com/billion. For the first 30,000 views of the Schlumpy video, BlueAvocado will donate to micro-entrepreneurs around the world via Kiva.org.
The goal is to get 1 billion plastic bags off the streets and BlueAvocado's adorable gro pak line is making that pledge easier than ever. BlueAvocado's bags are eco-chic and get the job done! The pods are a fav of mine and guys they now have some "manly" pods for you!

Thank you for this post. Plastic in general, and especially plastic bags (because they are so unnecessary) are a bane to the planet. If you search the Great Garbage Patch you will find out about choking wildlife and the gradually release of toxins by degrading plastics into the ocean and into our food chain as well. Plastic bags are part of this - many blow into rivers and the ocean. I avoid as much plastic as I can, and I never use plastic bags (maybe once in the last two years).

David, I see a lot of plastic bags blowing around the streets and in trees... in drives me crazy! I can't stand when I see people walking out of the store carrying one item in a plastic bag... why was the bag necessary?

These bags are a great idea. I do have to admit that I still get paper bags though. Then I reuse them as my garbage bags, thus reducing the need to buy plastic garbage bags.

I have a thing for bags. (not plastic ones) This solid pod bag is really nice looking. I too don't like seeing stray ones blowing around aimlessly outside. we had one stuck in a tree in our back yard, way way up high for almost two years! Yuck! I really really don't like the sound of the bag crackling when some one is digging around in one.

What a great idea - the pledge...it drives me insane as well when I see people with plastic bags...especially with a trolley full in the supermarket!

I like it! We use cloth shopping bags and quite honestly, they are quite a bit more durable too!

If everyone started using cotton or canvas bags instead of horrible plastic bags then the world would be a much better place.
Just think of the environment and our planet next time you are going shopping.

All those excess Polyethylene Plastic bags that don't need to be used. Each thing we do to not overuse plastics will help the environment. It's time we started to act responsibly.

My wife and I have switched to the nylon re-usable bags that fold down to next to nothing, but carry a whole lot. We used to recycle our old plastic bags, but now most places won't take them!
