We all know how bad for the environment those plastic shopping bags are, so I won't go into that now (but if you want to learn more, here's some info you can read, and there is a lot more like it on the net).
Many stores now offer the option to purchase reusable bags with their logo on them, and many also offer a credit when you check out with a reusable bag. Target is now one of these stores. Shop with your reusable bags and you will receive a 5 cent credit per bag (and no, it doesn't have to be a Target brand bag). Just make sure you're using an actual reusable shopping bag, not reusing a plastic bag!
A few other stores that offer an incentive for bringing your own bags include Stop & Shop, Whole Foods, Kroger, and Trader Joe's, although, from what I've read, one or two of these stores may have discontinued their incentives. Check with your local stores to find out if they have an incentive available (some of your locally owned stores may have one available, as well).

Well, in my country (Spain) you have to pay for the reusable bags anyway. I think that this is quite wrong because the people just don’t use them. Why pay money when you can take a normal plastic bag for free. They should do it as Stephanie says with 5 or 10 cents incentive! That would be very good…

Just one more reason to shop at Target
I went to Trader Joe's today filled out a slip for their monthly drawing if you bring a reusable shopping bag to the store. It wasn't a Trader Joe's bag and they still entered me into the drawing.

If supermarkets stopped using plastic bags completely and sold biodegradable bags made from fabrics then there would no longer be a problem. If customers had to pay for them on each visit they would soon get into the habit of bringing their own bag each visit.

Glad to see another company offering an incentive to bring your own bags.

I think not only bags must be reusable nowadays, but also some kinds of packages for products, because some bottles made of plastic are really harmful for the environment.
