Nicole Basabe and Alma Sloan flirted with the idea of becoming business partners upon meeting in Business School. Nicole, a career entrepreneur of Latin American descent, peaked Alma’s interest to surrender her career long tenure providing financing and strategic advice to global conglomerates in favor of something entrepreneurial with a different set of global challenges. The pair hoped to showcase all that is naturally beautiful in the developing world and grant local artisans access to market. Nicole had worked along the sidelines of fashion and retail for labels including Donna Karan, Theory and consumer products distribution company Sephora for 7 years, and hoped to bring the experience in marketing and success as an entrepreneur to a new type of venture. The concept for Tribal Societé satiates consumer demand for accessories that are high fashion, organic and launched during a time when fashion houses are feeling the pressure to go green. Products are purchased from artisans globally and likewise distributed in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The Tribal Societé jewelry line offers handcrafted, eco friendly and organic items from artisans of the world. Tribal Societé has global inspired fashion pieces direct from the source and is loved by celebrities like Jaime Pressly, Jayma Mays and Madeline Zima. All of the line's products are hand selected by founders Nicole & Alma, and distributed from NYC. Since the line's launch, products from Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Thailand have been showcased. Product offerings include chunky vegetable ivory cuffs, golden grass bangles, demolition wood cuffs, pure silver cocktail rings, palm fiber pendants and more, and all items are handmade.
Tribal Societé gives women with talent and entrepreneurial spirit opportunity to flourish. Artisans of the developing world are given the earning power to drastically improve the lives of their families and women of the developed world are invited to profit share by hosting their own trunk shows within their respective ‘Societés’. Additionally, Tribal Societé donates a portion of its proceeds to the Global Fund for Women, an organization that provides seed funding to groups intent on encouraging basic human rights for women.

I've already heard of eco-friendly food, eco-friendly furniture, but eco-friendly jewelry is something very new for me!

These are gorgeous, and I'm NYC based, trying to figure out where I can these necklaces! Organic jewelery is new to me too, but I love the fact that it's handmade, then you know that it's not crappy.

I was on the site.
And when I read that the "vegetable ivory" is harvested from Amazonian rainforests,
I rolled my eyes thinking: "oh great another reason for them to cut down the rain forests."
But I was wrong for two reasons.
The trees don't have to be cut down to harvest this product.
And it grows on a tree of the palm variety, so it doesn't have to grow in the forest.

Such hand-made jewelery are becoming a real trend. Maybe they don't have a real material value, but are colorful, very light, and you now that each piece is unique, because they are hand-made.

Beautiful jewelery! I was just in maui and bought some kukui necklaces made by the locals, very cool. It isn't 24k gold or expensive platinum, but nice to have nonetheless.

I am actually amazed at the variety and beauty they have to offer. Although there is much mass produced jewelry in the world, there are many people who prefer to have work that is hand-crafted by a real artisan
