This is a good base for a pesto sauce that can be tweaked to make it how you like it. Veggies such as sun dried tomatoes and arugula can add some good flavor, and for the non-vegans, parmesan cheeses are another addition option. Make it with your favorite kind of pasta, and you've got a quick, easy dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. of your favorite pasta
  • 2 1/2 cups fresh basil leaves
  • 6 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts
  • 3 medium garlic cloves, minced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Use food processor or blender to mix basil, olive oil, pine nuts, garlic, salt and pepper. Blend until a thick sauce.

Cook pasta as directed. Spoon sauce over pasta and serve.

  1. Stefanie, I'm starting to mouth watering, when I saw this delicious Vegan Pesto recipe!

By the way, this is my first time here at focusorganic. You have a nice, elegant yet informative website. Keep up the good work, and I will visit it frequently...

  2. Hi Stefani,

I always love to cook pasta and I really don't care what kind of pasta I'm using, well, simply because I don't know what their uses. Do you think this sauce would be fine in other pasta noodle? You just got my attention since you're using organic ingredients.

  3. Wilson Pon, thank you for the compliments!

admin, to me, it doesn't matter what pasta goes with what sauce, so I might not be the best person to ask! I figure if you like it, eat it however you want :)

  4. Hi Stefanie,

Thanks for your reply. At least now I know that I'm not alone. I'm really quite hesitant to cook pasta to my friends and office mates since I'm not really sure what kind of pasta to use, that's why I only cook pasta for my family. By the way, I already bookmarked your page. hope to get a lot of recipe from you. Thanks again!

  5. wow, pasta in pesto based sauce. I really love it. I have been trying to do like this one using parsley as an alternative to basil leaves. Do you have any Pasta recipe? I really love to see it.

  6. I am going to add something really unique to this -- organic peaches. I know it sounds, but the savory sweet mix is a great pesto addition!
